Beginnings are hard. And yet, here we are.
There’s something about a blank page—the quiet, the possibility, the little bit of uncertainty—that feels a lot like standing in front of a fresh canvas. I’ve done both for years, and still, every time, there’s that moment of hesitation… followed by the decision to begin anyway.
So this is me, beginning.

My name is Kay Meadows. I’m an artist, illustrator, and lifelong creative rooted in Mississippi. I’ve spent over 30 years working as a designer, and in recent years, I’ve returned more fully to painting—oils, acrylics, watercolor, pastel—whatever helps me say what words sometimes can’t.
Art, for me, has never just been about making something beautiful although I do love doing that. It’s about noticing. It’s about slowing down long enough to see light shifting across a landscape, or the way a story unfolds in layers over time. It’s about paying attention—to the world, to the moment, to the quiet nudges that say, “this matters.”
That’s what brings me here.
I’m creating this space—Artversations: Brushstrokes & Journeys with Kay Meadows—as a place to share more than finished paintings. I want to share the stories behind the work. The process. The struggles. The unexpected turns. The moments that shape the art before it ever reaches a canvas.
This isn’t just a newsletter. It’s a conversation.
A space for those who create, those who appreciate, and those who are simply curious about the journey. A place where art and life overlap, where we can explore what it means to keep showing up creatively—even when it’s messy, uncertain, or unfinished.
Here’s what you can expect:
• Stories behind my painting series (like The Pilgrimage)
• Reflections from plein air painting and studio work
• Behind-the-scenes process and lessons learned
• Occasional glimpses into illustration and book work
• Honest thoughts about the creative life
I’ll be writing regularly (and realistically), sharing as the work and the stories unfold—along with occasional deeper dives, early previews of new work, and extra behind-the-scenes content for subscribers who want to go a little further into the process with me.
If you’d like a front-row seat to the journey, I invite you to subscribe and be part of what’s unfolding here.
Let’s begin.
