She Gets Her Kicks is inspired by scrapbook paper with a map showing the St. Louis area that I glued to the board. I decided to create a vintage girl who is traveling. She has the key she needs to go on the adventure she is looking for. As I created her I was thinking about what types of vacations or trips people took back in the ’50s-’60s. Route 66 came to mind. I looked it up and low and behold the Route goes right through St. Louis. This was completely an intuitive painting and I love the result.
